OUR VISION
To be the best choice for education in North Carolina.

Our Core Values
Everything that happens at ARS can be traced back to the Core Values.
These are a reflection of a strong legacy, a guide for daily operations, and a blueprint for the future.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
… providing a rigorous and relevant curriculum with all involved being committed to the highest expectations of performance in all areas
RESPECT
… being thoughtful of or showing regard for the worth or value of someone or something; treating everyone and everything, especially one’s self, with dignity
SUPPORT
… to advocate learning and growth through trusting relationships, positive motivation, and service in a collaborative environment
SAFETY
… being free from threat, both physically and emotionally
INTEGRITY
… knowing and choosing right over wrong; being responsible and taking ownership of our behavior as individuals
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
We believe that every students has the potential to learn and grow. With MTSS, each student is met on their individual level to ensure they receive the instruction and support they need.
TIERED INTERVENTIONS
Student tiers are based on their individual progress. Students requiring more support move up to a higher tier, allowing individualized learning and interventions.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
We believe in focusing on rewards for positive behavior rather than consequences for negative behavior. A focus on the positive helps reduce discipline issues and leads to success.
DATA DRIVEN DISCUSSIONS
Our teachers follow a process of constant reflection, always looking for opportunities to better support students. Using data to identify gaps makes our teachers more effective.
EC & GIFTED EDUCATION
For students requiring Exceptional Children’s services (IEPs or 504s), our EC services complement tiered interventions. For gifted students, a tier exists that allows access to more rigorous interventions and content.
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Eduation of the Whole Child
We believe that students should have multiple ways to experience success. A budding artist may not find this in math class. ARS students attend regularly scheduled classes in visual arts, music, and Spanish. In addition to physical education, strong athletics programs are available for both elementary and middle school aged students.
VISUAL ARTS
Our art department gives students opportunities to create a wide range of artwork and pottery. In addition, students are exposed to a wide range of different artists, artistic movements, and art history.
MUSIC
Elementary age students receive general music courses, exposing them to a wide range of music theory and practice. The middle campus band and chorus are a natural extension with regular performanges.
SPANISH
Students in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade attend regular Spanish classes. In addition, every Eighth Grade graduate receives high school credit. This prepares students for the future and exposes them to a wide variety of Spanish-speaking cultures.
ATHLETICS
Our ARS Youth Athletic Association maintains a wide variety of sports teams for elementary age students, including football! Our middle campus teams compete against other charter schools in the region in basketball, soccer, volleyball, and more.
Alumni Spotlight
Don’t take our word for it – here’s what our alumni say:
The education I gained at ARS helped me to navigate not only through high school, my undergraduate, and graduate studies, but has served me well living and working in the non-profit sector. ARS always encouraged philanthropy both in and out of the classroom and that has stayed with me from when I was student there to my adult years.

Christian Waugh
Class of 2002
Attending American Renaissance exposed me to culture and diversity. Not a lot of people got the chance to take some of the classes I was fortunate enough to take. I made friends with amazing people I still communicate with today.Attending American Renaissance exposed me to culture and diversity. Patricia Brown
Class of 2009
Attending American Renaissance School prepared me with social and academic skills I used in high school and college. I valued the small environment learning and picked my college based off my experience at ARS. At ARS, we were challenged on a daily basis. I learned to interact with people who were different from me and what it meant to be part of a community.
